about

Fictional character who's song goes to Number one and he contemplates how it all could go wrong while paying out on pop songs although the irony is that the song itself is a pop song (and the writer doesn't actually mind pop songs)

lyrics

I was driving in my car just the other day
When I ran out of CD’s to play
So I thought I’d give the radio a chance
I tuned to FM started wetting my pants
As it turned out what I didn’t know
Was that my song was stealing the show
Oh every channel I turned to you see
Turns out that they were playing me

So no more would I be
Thinking they don’t play me
Now it seems I’m on top
Got bad radio don’t want pop

Now I’m out doing shows across the U S of A
Next stop is Canada then Europe they say
Paris, Brussels, Hamburg, Berlin then Czech
Next stop London boy I’ll be a wreck
Now everywhere that I do go
Everybody wants me on their TV show
All I have to do is a song and a dance
But every time I do it I think will this last

So how did I get number one
I was just having fun
That means you’re singing you see
You’ve got bad radio just like me

I can’t believe it you see
That I made it onto the TV
The world is watching me
Millions of people, not just 2 or 3
Is there a message they see
Somewhere hidden deep inside of me
Maybe it’s listening for free
That bad radio sits atop the tree
Is this

Is this a dream Is this a dream

So now I’m wondering just where this will lead
Other celebrities tell me what I must heed
What I must do and where I must hang
Otherwise it might just all end with a bang
What I said you mean fame is fleeting
That everything I have could turn to nothing
No message, no hope, no income, no job
Well next thing you know I’ll be a lazy slob

So maybe that’s why we listen to crap
Cos every time you sing it you fall in a trap
So next time you sing it you’ll see
You’ll have got bad radio just like me
